The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed strong optimism about taking over governance from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Abubakar Dogara, the North Central Zonal Vice Chairman of the SDP, voiced this confidence during the party’s North-Central Zonal Caucus meeting held in Nasarawa State.

Dogara stated that the party is actively expanding its membership and engaging in grassroots mobilization. “We are organizing meetings at all levels—zonal, national, state, local government, and ward. Membership registration is ongoing, and demand for our membership cards is so high that we often run out at the state level,” he said.

He added that the SDP is steadily gaining popularity and positioning itself as the leading alternative. “By God’s grace, we are preparing to take over the leadership of this country in 2027. The SDP is now the preferred choice for many Nigerians.”

Dogara also highlighted that the party has resolved to safeguard its structures and protect its members, moving away from a past tendency to yield influence to external actors.

He urged Nigerians to support the party and its candidates, noting that the SDP is built on a constitution that prioritizes the welfare, security, and interests of the people—areas where he says the current ruling party has fallen short.

In support of Dogara’s remarks, Benue State SDP Chairman Idoko Idoto expressed confidence that the party will dominate in his state and beyond in the next elections.

“SDP has a solid history in Benue. We’ve governed here before and fielded strong candidates in the past. Come 2027, we’re ready to take over the state, win senatorial and House of Representatives seats, and dominate the State Assembly,” he declared.

The meeting concluded with gratitude expressed to the party’s National Chairman, National Working Committee (NWC), and key figures like Hon. Jonathan Gaza, Prince Adewale Adebayo, and Hon. Femi Olaniyi Ferrari for their unwavering support and leadership in advancing the party’s goals.
