Nigeria @ 65: “Keep Hope Alive — The Labour of Our Heroes Past Will Not Go in Vain” says HRH Dr. Selky Kile Torughedi

As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, voices of optimism and encouragement continue to echo across the nation. Traditional rulers, known for their deep-rooted patriotism, have joined in urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the country’s development despite current challenges.

Among these prominent leaders is His Royal Highness Dr. Selky Kile Torughedi, Eyewei V of Azzuzuama, Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State and Amanannawei of FCT Abuja, who recently reaffirmed his call for Nigerians, especially Niger Deltans, to keep hope alive. Speaking to selected journalists in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State’s capital, HRH Dr. Selky acknowledged the developmental challenges facing Nigeria but stressed that the nation’s progress remains inevitable.

“Like any fast-developing country, Nigeria is currently experiencing a phase of developmental teething, which naturally brings challenges,” he said. “But Nigeria will thrive. The labour of our heroes past shall not go in vain, and we shall soon reap the benefits of their sacrifices.”

HRH Dr. Selky urged governments at all levels to implement deliberate policies, programs, and projects aimed at improving the daily lives of Nigerians. He emphasized that the social contract between elected leaders and the people must place Nigerians at the center of all developmental efforts.

“Let us begin to see deliberate policies and initiatives that improve the lives of Nigerians. This is at the heart of the social contract between Nigerians and their elected representatives at all levels,” he said.

Concluding his message, the Southern Ijaw monarch called for unity among Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, region, or religion, as the foundation for peace and sustainable development.
