Rayfield, Plateau State – May 23, 2025* – Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, warmly welcomed delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the North Central zone to a high-profile dinner on Friday night, setting the tone for the party’s crucial zonal congress scheduled for Saturday, May 24.

The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the New Government House in Rayfield, brought together key PDP stakeholders ahead of the election of new party officials. Governor Mutfwang seized the opportunity to commend the delegates for their unwavering loyalty and unity despite numerous challenges facing the party.
In his address, Governor Mutfwang described the PDP as one of Nigeria’s most structured, ideologically driven political parties since the Second Republic. He noted that the party remains a formidable force on the Nigerian political landscape, emphasizing the need for renewed commitment to reposition it for future electoral success.

In a statement by Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, he noted that the Governor said “We have faced many hurdles, including recent judicial decisions that unseated several of our elected representatives. But our resilience and dedication remain unshaken,” Governor Mutfwang said. “With continued sacrifice and unity, the PDP will emerge stronger and more united.”

Highlighting ongoing efforts to resolve internal party issues, the Governor disclosed the formation of a special committee led by Senator Bukola Saraki, of which he is a member. This committee is tasked with addressing internal challenges and ensuring a peaceful National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, paving the way for a national convention later this year aimed at rejuvenating the party for the 2027 elections.

Governor Mutfwang also paid homage to the party’s founding fathers, whose vision and sacrifice laid the foundation for the PDP’s enduring legacy. He stressed the critical role the North Central zone has played in the party’s history and future growth.
Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, who was also present, lauded Governor Mutfwang’s integrity and leadership, affirming his commitment to restoring the PDP’s glory. “The North Central zone is the binding wire of Nigeria. With unity and purpose, we will overcome our challenges and move the party forward,” Senator Moro stated.

PDP Vice Chairman for the North Central zone, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, echoed the optimism, describing Governor Mutfwang as “God-sent” and praising his impactful governance in Plateau State. He expressed confidence that the PDP would continue to grow in strength and relevance across the region.
